The Hong Kong Headquarters of the Xingzhonghui was set up under the guise of Kuen Hang Club, and it then proceeded to plan and organise its first revolutionary attempt, the Guangzhou uprising.
The Xingzhonghui (Revive China Society) was the revolutionary organisation founded by Dr Sun Yat-sen in Hawaii in 1894 with the aim of overthrowing the Qing government. The Hong Kong Headquarters was set up in February 1895 under the guise of Kuen Hang Club, at 13 Staunton Street with Wong Wing-sheung as its first president, and it then proceeded to plan and organise its first revolutionary attempt, the Guangzhou uprising.
The original location of Xingzhonghui’s Hong Kong headquarters used to be in disguise of the Kuen Hang Club. Its sign was hung on the front door. The work aims to reveal the true identity of Xingzhonghui, behind the “cover-up” of “Kuen Hang Club”.
Don Mak
Don Mak is an illustrator born and brought up in Hong Kong. The passion and artistry bloomed early. In 1999, he left school and joined the local comic talents. He later continued his studies in arts and design, ever enriching the wealth of knowledge and skills gained in the working years. Don Mak has been a member of the Hong Kong Society of Illustrators since 2004. In 2009, he graduated with a BA (Hons) in Design – Visual Communication from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Since graduation, he has been illustrating freelance for magazines, publishers and advertising agencies. He later founded DONMAK & CO., a Hong Kong based illustration studio.
