2 Bridges Street
Dr Sun Yat-sen was baptised and lived in Preaching House of the American Congregational Church. Its original site has been revitalised into the Hong Kong News-Expo now.
When Dr Sun Yat-sen arrived in Hong Kong in late 1883, he initially attended the Diocesan Home and Orphanage of the Anglican Church as a day pupil. He lived in the Preaching House of the American Congregational Church (now China Congregational Church) at 2 Bridges Street and was baptised here later, taking the Christian name “Yat-sen (Rixin)”. Dr Sun continued to live at the Preaching House even after transferring to the Government Central School.
Make a history-telling window on the external wall of the existing building. The original building was gone already. Under the lights and shades due to the changing time, season or weather, the window recalls the memories when Dr Sun Yat-sen studied, baptised and lived in Hong Kong. It looks like the building is remembering something, only at occasional moments.
